How To Cope With Carpet In Your Rental Home

August 24, 2016

Thank you STAINMASTER® for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.

I have to say that I am not a carpet fan. I don’t like the thought that it is basically just a giant sponge of dirt and germs. Hard floors make me much, much happier. However, when you rent, you can’t be too picky! The home we have been in for almost two years now is fully carpeted. Again, not my first choice, but it had other features that we needed.

For the first year we lived here, I wasn’t as concerned about protecting the carpet. It didn’t get all that dirty and I have always had a no shoes policy. Since having Charlie, all that has changed in more ways that one. Not only is life just generally busier and messier, but now there is a tiny human who consistently wallows, crawls and falls all over the carpet.

You can see that my living room is “stylishly babyproofed” and barricaded off from the rest of the house. It’s the one area that Charlie can roam as she pleases and it’s where we spend the majority of our time during the day. That said, the living area is the carpet that I am the most obsessed with keeping it clean. The irony is, it’s also has the most traffic. When I say traffic, I mean we spend all our time here and it takes a lot of abuse. From me spilling my coffee every other day, to Charlie slinging a food pouch all around the room, to Grayson sneaking chocolate milk in and spilling it- the living room carpet is a catch-all.

STAINMASTER® has been my saving grace. I have been using their High Traffic Cleaner and it helps me keep my living room floor clean enough to eat off, because lets be honest, my kids are definitely eating off the floor on a fairly regular basis. Not only does it clean, but it also protects against future resoiling. Some other carpet cleaners can leave behind a weird residue, but this one doesn’t.

STAINMASTER® Carpet Care products are designed for use on stain resistant, nylon, polyester and polypropylene color-fast carpets and rugs. They all have a light, fresh scent. Besides the High Traffic Cleaner for carpets, they also have a carpet stain remover, a carpet pet stain remover, and a rug stain remover. Give these products a try and leave a review on their site!
